IEEE Xplore: Command Search

Engineering

Command Search

Command Search is an advanced search technique that allows users to use specific commands and syntax to conduct highly detailed and targeted searches. This method is especially useful for experienced users who need precise control over their search criteria.

Key Features of Command Search

  • Field Tags: Command search lets users specify particular fields, such as AU for author, TI for title, and AB for abstract. For example, AU:Smith AND TI:"Artificial Intelligence" would search for works authored by Smith with "Artificial Intelligence" in the title.
  • Boolean Operators: Users can use operators like AND, OR, and NOT to combine or exclude terms. For example, cloud computing AND security NOT IoT retrieves results related to cloud computing and security but excludes content on IoT.
  • Phrase Searches: Placing keywords in quotation marks (e.g., "machine learning") ensures that IEEE Xplore searches for the exact phrase, making it ideal for finding specific terms or concepts.
  • Wildcards and Truncation: Using symbols like * (asterisk) allows for truncation. For instance, comput* retrieves results for "computer," "computing," and "computation."

Why to use!

Why Use Command Search?

Command search is valuable for researchers who need to refine searches to a high degree of specificity, enabling them to focus on exact terms, authors, or subjects. This approach saves time by delivering highly relevant results, minimizing irrelevant content, and allowing for complex search queries in one step.
